Introduction

A new ThinLinc release is finally here, version 4.3.0. It includes more than 90 enhancements. The most prominent features are:

  • Support for modern Linux and Windows platforms, such as Red Hat Enterprise Linux 7 and Windows 2012 R2.
  • Many additional ARM platforms are supported, including ARM based terminals from Fujitsu, IGEL, Wyse, and HP.

Changes in This Release

In the list below, the bug number is given in parentheses. For more information, visit https://www.cendio.com/bugzilla/.

Server

  • ThinLinc works on most modern Linux distributions and Oracle Solaris (R). We recommend that you deploy ThinLinc on one of these tested platforms:
    • Red Hat (R) Enterprise Linux Server 7 (64-bit)
    • SUSE Linux Enterprise Desktop 11 SP3 (R) (64-bit)
    • Ubuntu Desktop (R) 14.04 (64-bit)
    • Oracle Solaris (R) 10
  • The server can read license files from ZIP archives. (4898)
  • The previous version did not run correctly on systems without "PAM_XDISPLAY". This includes Red Hat Enterprise Linux 5. This problem has been fixed. (5166)

General

  • The client based on Java Applet technology has been removed in favour of the HTML5 client. (4597)
  • With ThinLinc 4.2.0, the services for the Web Administration Interface and the HTML5 client failed to start on systems without IPv6 support. This has been corrected. SSLv2 requests are now handled correctly. (5167, 5171)
  • A new tool called "tl-env" has been added. It can be used to execute a command using a ThinLinc session environment, from outside of the session. (5265)

Native Client

  • The keyboard handling has been reworked for improved compatibility. (4677)
  • With the previous client, keyboard combinations using Ctrl+Alt did not work correctly. This has been fixed. (4984)
  • The support for "dead keys" has been improved. (3223)
  • A package for the ARM based "eLux RT" platform has been added. This means that the client can be used on terminals such as Fujitsu Futro Z220. (4610)
  • A package for the ARM based IGEL IZ1 terminal has been added. (5001)
  • A Linux client package for "soft-float" ARM platforms has been added. (A package for "hard-float" platforms such as Fedora 20, Debian 7.0, and Ubuntu 12.10 or later was added in the previous release.) (5181)
  • The client now works on the ARM based Wyse T50 terminal, which runs "Dell Wyse Enhanced Ubuntu Linux". (4495)
  • The client now works on the ARM based HP t410 terminal. (4496)
  • A ThinLinc profile for the HP Thinpro "Connection Manager" has been added. This makes it easier to deploy the client on HP terminals. (5185)
  • The option for disabling SSH encryption has been removed. (3059)
  • With earlier versions of the client running on Windows, the copy/paste functionality sometimes stopped working after a while. This has been corrected. (5096)

HTML5 Client

  • Earlier versions of the HTML5 Client did not accept passwords longer than 31 characters. This has been corrected. (5212)

Desktop Customizer

  • The Desktop Customizer now works with the MATE Desktop Environment. (5214)

Windows (R) Integration

  • Windows Server 2012 and Windows Server 2012 R2 are now supported RDP servers. (4552, 4912)
  • A US International keyboard layout is now included. (5016)
  • With ThinLinc 4.2.0, resizing of a SeamlessRDP session could result in an additional instance of the running application, or loss of SeamlessRDP functionality. (5151, 5183)
  • The RDP client in ThinLinc 4.1.1 and 4.2.0 could sometimes fail with error message "disconnect: Invalid licensing message." This has been corrected. (5209)
