Cendio is proud to announce our latest ThinLinc release, version 1.5.0. This version includes several new features as well as many corrections. In total, this release contains more than 150 enhancements.

With the release of ThinLinc 1.5.0, the LiveCD product is discontinued.

Changes in this release

For each enhancement, the issue number is given in parenthesis.

Server

  • ThinLinc works on most modern Linux distributions and Sun Solaris (R). This release has been extensively tested on the following platforms:
    • Red Hat (R) Enterprise Linux 4 (Nahant Update 3)
    • SUSE (R) Linux 10.0, in 64-bit mode
    • Ubuntu (R) 5.10
    • Sun Solaris (R) 10
  • The VSM server now purges old sessions in the background. This reduces startup time and improves Webmin performance. (1151)
  • A new utility script, tl-ssh-all, makes it easy to run a command on all servers in the cluster. (592)
  • The support for SELinux systems has been improved. (1229)
  • Improved compatibility with 64-bit Linux distributions. (1678)
  • GTK+ is no longer required. (1537)
  • Installing the ThinLinc server from a CD that is mounted with "noexec" is now possible. (1636)
  • It is now possible to restrict write access to the UNIX home directory. This can be used to force the user to save documents to a NCP or CIFS mounted subdirectory. (1538)
  • The default access mode for home directories created by VSM agent is now 0700. (1864)

Desktop Customizer

  • The Desktop Customizer now supports the GNOME desktop environment in addition to KDE. (1465)
  • The Desktop Customizer does not affect the root user, by default. (1573)
  • The Desktop Customizer features a new, improved GUI. For example, it is now possible to browse for icons and programs. Defining Windows (R) applications is much easier. (1683)
  • The Desktop Customizer features improved compatibility with software packages adding .menu files to /etc/xdg/menus/applications-merged, such as CrossOver Office (R). (1630)
  • Sample application definitions are included, which makes it easier to start working with the Desktop Customizer. (1578)

Client

  • A client package for HP t5000 terminals is now included. (1402)
  • The ThinLinc RPM client package now includes a desktop icon. (1342)
  • The client package for Neoware NeoLinux (R) now features a Snapin for easier installation. (1710)
  • A client package for ThinStation is included. (1644)
  • The Windows (R) client supports sound redirection, in both directions. (262)
  • The Java Browser Client works with One Time Passwords, since it now supports "keyboard-interactive" prompts. (465)

General

  • A new sound architecture - Polypaudio - replaces the Esound software. Polypaudio is fully backwards compatible with Esound but features a new, superior protocol. (29)
  • A Polypaudio plugin has been donated to the ALSA project. This means that virtually every ALSA application can use sound redirection. (1739)
  • Authentication using RSA SecurID (R) is now supported. (1418)
  • The server, client, and TLCOS CD contains source code for all Open Source components. (1438)
  • Two serial ports are now supported. (1807)

Novell Integration

  • The eDirectory (R) integration module in Webmin now has a health status and performance check. (1501)

Windows (R) Integration

  • Applications running on Windows Terminal Servers can now be published to a Linux desktop seamlessly, by using a feature called SeamlessRDP. This allows for full integration with the desktop. The remote applications can be moved, resized and restacked. (243)
  • The tl-loadagent package has been replaced with a "WTS Tools" package. It includes the load agent as well as the SeamlessRDP server component. (459)
  • Sound redirection for Windows Terminal Servers is now enabled by default. It is no longer necessary to call tl-run-winapp (and similiar tools) via esddsp. (1676)
  • RDP connections are created with a color depth of 16 bits by default. (1600)
  • Several problems related to clipboard operations over RDP has been corrected. (1860)

SafeLinc

  • SafeLinc is no longer a separate product, but instead a feature of the ThinLinc product. (1841)

Documentation

  • The ThinLinc Userguide has been renamed to ThinLinc Administrator's Guide, to better reflect the content. (1445)
